At least eight violent incidents occurred in Toronto over the weekend, including seven stabbings and one shooting.

One stabbing happened outside a strip mall near Islington Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard on Sunday night.

Toronto police Staff-Sgt. David Gillis said the victim did not know his attacker.

"For some reason he [the attacker] just started chasing him [the victim] and he stabbed him three or four times ... [the victim] was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital in serious condition, but it's not life-threatening," said Gillis.

Earlier Sunday, there was a fight near Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue West, where four men were stabbed. All are expected to survive.

Around the same time, at a gas station on Trethewey Drive, a man in his 40s was attacked with a blade and received two wounds in his back.

On Saturday, there was a shooting and also a stabbing in the east end.

A 30-year-old man showed up at Toronto East General Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

In a separate incident at Danforth Avenue and Victoria Park a man in his 20s was stabbed in the neck.
