A Toronto transit driver who was caught on video taking a seven-minute coffee break while on duty has been suspended pending an investigation.

The Amalgamated Transit Union, which represents Toronto Transit Commission workers, says the incident is under review.

The grainy YouTube video, which was shot by passenger Reuven Politi, shows the driver leaving the still-running bus unattended while he takes a washroom break and buys coffee at a nearby shop. The incident took place in the wee hours of the morning Friday, Jan. 29.

The video shows the doors on the bus were left open, leaving the passengers to shiver in the cold.

A female rider confronts the driver after he returns from his long break. The driver is seen putting his finger to his lips in a gesture meant to silence her.

The video is the latest embarrassment for the TTC, which recently faced a public relations nightmare after a photo showing a ticket collector asleep on the job surfaced on the Internet.

The TTC has since promised to step up its customer relations and to take complaints of poor service seriously.
