A Via Rail train travelling from Montreal to Toronto with more than 400 passengers has collided with a truck near Belleville, Ont.,killing the truck driver.
A passenger on the train, which was carrying 432 passengers and eight crew, told CBC News the train hit a dump truck.
The No. 61 train left from Montreal just before noon Friday and was scheduled to arrive in Toronto at 4:45 p.m. ET. It hit the truck at about 3:30 p.m.
There were no reports of serious injuries on the train, but there were reports of minor injuries, including one Via employee who suffered a cut above her eye and was taken to hospital.
Via spokeswoman Catherine Kaloutsky told The Canadian Press that some crew and passengers suffered minor injuries, but no further details were provided.
Passengers were told to stay on the train, and Via was arranging for buses to take them to their destinations.
Passengers had originally been told the train derailed, but a Via official told CBC News the train never left the tracks. There is a large amount of debris on the track, however. The spokesperson said there are no cancellations of other trains at this point, but there may be delays.
